Hi all, im back again, been out of work for a while now and finally got sorted so decided to pick up from where i left off on my ELR z1100r2 as i had some carb issues being too rich and flooding anyway i took off the dust filed dust sheet and wheeled her out to recall where i stopped last year , oh yes carbs, so bought a set of carb fuel jets ready. i noitced there is a slight oil leak from the front right hand cyclinder head, its not the rocker cover gasket its right underneath, and wondered if these motors are prone to this, or anyone else known of it leaking there and whats the best remidy,
any help / advise would be great,
so i can get the project finished and back on the road,
kind regards Phill in gloucestershire

oil leak from head R2

My 1000R sprang a leak there just changed the head gasket - Cometic from Debben's is the best bet. To be honest I just used a stock gasket I got cheap in a sale, but I knew it was going to have to came apart again soon anyway for a prper seeing to. Once you've the head off there's a lot of stuff you could replace it's really up to you.

My Lawson also leaked oil between head and barrels. Most likely sourceon mine was the camchain tunnel. With 2 peice standard gasket there is a rubber o ring that fits around cam tunnel. I did not seat mine properly when i put the head on and nicked it. Using one peice gasket makes the o-ring redundant but recommendation from Debbens was to fill where the o-ring sits with high temperature sealant.
If I ever get round to finishing it I'll let you know if it is oil tight with this mod....

Quick daft question Phil, what CC is it?
I have two pairs of new 1000 and possibly one pair 1100 Gpz head gaskets but youre saying 1100!! Yours if i am correct, that i have one i mean.
Also i have a feeling that genuine Kawasaki tunnel 'O' rings are about £27 each or something ridiculous like that.
Have you tried to re-torque the head?
Could you be more specific about the location of the leak?
Is it right front, right centre or right rear?
There are two 15mm ish diameter nitrile 'O' rings round the barrel studs which transfer oil to the head. Dont think they occur on the Gpz barrels but if they were replaced or retro-fitted do you think this would cure it?

Hi Guys thanks for the help so far, the leak is on the left hand very front corner of the cylinder head as you sit on the bike ,right on the corner and you cant see it unless you get on your knees and look up,
im going to get the carbs sorted first and run her and see how it developes from there, and its also suggested that i use the comsetic !! head gasket if i go for that option later,
ref cc is the Z1000R2 with the 1100cc barrels,
thanks again guys,
also get the colour tune kit now so can see what mixtures are like.
Thanks again
Regards Phill
