Dyna coils - ht lead routeing

#1 PostAuthor: Kev1R » Sat Mar 06, 2010 10:13 am

Does anyone have a photo (or advice) of Dyna coils fitted. - It is particularly the routeing of the ht leads I am interested in - Not the coils themselves as they are now on.
The best route I can see is to let the leads 'bunch up' in the headstock area (particularly the forward most pair) and then loop back 180 degrees to the top of the engine. Am I missing something - is there another way?

That's the way I've always had mine.

The coil H/T leads should be pointing to the rear of the bike - away from the headstock :!:

You should not run leads bundled together as they induce cross fire to other plugs. Crossing at 90 deg is Ok.
Dyna also advise that the secondary towers face forward.

Personally I go for the shortest route (too tight to buy lots of HT lead :D ) and try not to run them parallel

Ok - thanks for responses so far - the set up in the pics is nothing like mine. I have the green coils and they are mounted above the top rail

I have just taken the bike for a quick spin round the block and it seems ok. As for not running the leads together - its difficult to keep them apart as they all seem to want to converge in the same physical place.

Cheers
Kevin

Main thing is to be aware that the mounting posts run VERY close to the low tension screws :?? That is BAD.....

The the early bikes take the green ones and they go above the rails and face forward.

Rich I never had a misfire on mine and the leads were all together in there for years maybe the Dyna leads are well insulated?

Here's how I did mine;

Note the heatshrink on the mounting pillar to avoid the low tension lead shorting out.

Is that the relay mod that everyone seems to advise and if so which relay do you use and where do you get them?

Mark, That is the 'relay mod'.
It came from my local motor part store. I bought it as a spotlamp wiring kit, it came with some heavy duty cable & connectors. Didn't cost much more than a fiver if I remember correctly.

Looking at those pics, I'm starting to worry that mine won't clear the frame bracing on mine?
