Forks..... Hard Chrome Plating

#1 PostAuthor: Ginger Bear » Fri Feb 19, 2010 11:00 am

After commenting on another thread regarding ZX9R forks, I was enlightened to the differences between ZX9R B1 & B2 forks, compared to the later B3 & B4 forks.
I have since aquired myself a set, which I plan to use on my current project. (Anybody want a set of Busa forks?).
The chrome on the ZX9R forks needs sorting. I have come accross http://www.hardchromeplating.co.uk/ who will do the job for £135.00 inc of vat plus postage @ around £10.00 each way.

Philpotts want £225.00 to do the job, vat & delivery may be extra

The other option is to buy a set of new pattern stantions from Wemoto
& £195.00 delivered to my door.

Anyone had any experience with hard chrome platers :?

GB
I've just had my Z1 forks back from Philpotts and although a little more expensive than others(£160.00) they have made an excellent job and I would recommend them.

Philpotts do seem to have a good name. I guess you get what you pay for in the long run, just can't understand why they charge more for upside down forks?

I've hd 3 sets of forks done by Philpots over the last 10yrs and they have always been 1st rate, so I suppose that proves not only are they good, they've always been good. :D

££££ do they take the calliper mount off for you?

Personally I haven't tried any as I scored some new stanchions for my forks off ebay, but if I did I would use Philpotts. I have never heard anything bad about their work, recommendations go a long way and the extra money for the peace of mind is well worth it.
