do alfa pipes come apart?

#1 PostAuthor: Redbeard » Sun Feb 14, 2010 4:20 pm

Anyone know if the downpipes can be seperated from the rest of the exhaust? So I can heat wrap them individually. Thanking you.

Yes the downpipes do seperate from the rest of the exhaust

it might also be worth you marking them 1 2 3 4 etc on the inside of the downpipes to help speed up the re assembly, some of the downpipes were ready stamped 1 - 4 but not all of them were
It's not broke , just in bit's for a while !

Adam, you will almost certainly find that they won't dismantle easily, road muck, rust etc.. will make the pipes "weld" themselves to the collector. Copius amounts of WD40 will help, [and some patience!]
Four pipes rule, anything else is second best.

Thanks guys. I've left them soaked in WD hopefully it will help. I assumed they would seperate but there's no movement whatsoever. Even with the leverage that the pipes allow they don't move, they just flex. Cheers Ted i'll label them if i can get them apart.

Another good trick which sometimes works is...

Get your buddy to drive a transit van at about 90mph. You go in the back and throw the zorst out the back door on to the road. Sometimes the battering around can free the seized items.

Now this might seem far fetched, what about just penetrating it!!

Try PlusGas as a penetrating oil, it`s much better than WD40, and available from most good motor factors (and some bad ones). Give it a good soaking and leave over night.
