Neutral light comes on in first gear any advice

#1 PostAuthor: Padders » Sun Feb 14, 2010 7:01 pm

Hi the Z1 I recently bought would not change gear and had a solid clutch. I stripped the clutch and put new plates in. the clutch works great now and gears can be selected no problem. However when in neutral the neutral light does not come on. but when I select first gear it comes on.

Any ideas and advice welcomed.

Older Kwaks had neutral at the bottom.

Maybe a mix up in there somewhere ?

check the plate behind the neutral switch maybe it has been bent or fitted incorrectly ... take the trans cover off if this is the case

Cheers Martin I thought I would have to delve in behind the transmission cover but had my fingers crossed it would be another simple fix.

Chris this is a Z1 not a triple.

Mark I am lost for words your informative replies are always more than welcome. Just like a fart in a space suit.

Must be difficult to hold tools that way.

Padders. I wasn`t being thick when I suggested the neutral at bottom thing.

Is it possible that the plate with the pin which makes contact with the switch is from an H2 ? Or maybe it has come loose or been assembled wrong ?

I don't know if this will be helpful but on my z650 there is a notch in the disc that rotates underneath the nuetral switch when you take the inner transmission cover off. That has to be directly under the switch when you are in nuetral to activate it.
You can see the raised notch on my one (its at the 9o'clock position) on the plate on the left spindle. I wonder if you have mounted that slightly offset??? From Mark

Cheers Mark that seems to be the problem. Looks like the previous builder made a slight mistake but its not the end of the world.
