syncronizing carbs

#1 PostAuthor: travelingman » Tue Apr 10, 2007 4:12 am

When syncronizing carbs I use the mercury sticks . The night I adjusted them on the bench before installing them on the bike an one of the last things the book says is to adjust the full trottle stop so that the slide thats the lowest is even with top of its bore . So I guess this would mean that you should make it the reference carb to adjust the others to . Or you might end adjusting it back into the bore an not fully clearing the opening at full trottle. Whats the rule of thumb on this procedure ?

Thanks
an be safe an remember its
not always how fast you got
there or how fast you got
back. Its how many times
you do it that makes it
so much fun ride on !

Travel'man, I have had a lot of success using the ball-bearing "static" method of syncronising carbs. Simply get 4 ball-bearings and adjust all carbs individually, until they all fall out together, when the slides are lifted against the spring pressure The carbs are off the engine, of course! The only consideration is to make sure you have enough adjustment with the slide fully up and fully down. Hence, the selection of which carb is the datum is critical.

Thanks Garn thats about as easy an presise as a person could get
for bench setting the carbs . I'll check into those Metzler tires too thats
one thing we do have over here , a good source for tires .

I use an allen wrench. I used to use, and still have mercury carb stix, but I have to clear the lines every time I use them by sucking on the tubes individually until I get a good mercury flow. The last 2 times I did this it was simply days before the drooling, twitching, and incontinance stopped. Now I use an allen wrench with the carbs on the bike and adjust untill the slide just kisses the wrench. I forgot which size it is but I have it set aside for the purpose. Much simpler.

Carb sync Henry style

Wow! Mr J Henry
I've got a set of those carb stix too but I don't think i'm brave enough to
unplug the tubes by sucking on them. I've got enough brain damage
without any help from Mercury juice . The allen wrench with carbs on
bike that sounds like it would work, an not even leave a bad taste in
your mouth .

A small drill bits a good way too, 2 or 3mm
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!
