Front brakes do not match

#1 PostAuthor: dwhitehouse » Sun Jan 17, 2010 4:18 pm

I’ve been starting to put my Z1000A1 back together over the past couple of months. I striped it down near the end of summer to get the frame painted and wheels rebuilt. I’ve just been going over the brakes and now find that the front callipers do not match . In fact I’ve got two different sized pistons on the front both a 38mm and a 43mm.

I think that a bike from 77 should have two 43mm pistons on the front, is this correct?

If so does anyone have a spare Right hand calliper in any condition (have new piston and seals) that they want to flog.

Anyone got a use for a 38mm calliper too ?

What size did a1's have fitted originally ?

I'll check which side the 38mm caliper is of. Actually it probably easier if I just post a pick of it since I dunno left from right ;)

Cheers Keith.

Did they swap from 2 x 43mm pistons to 2 x 38mm pistons between A1 and A2 ? Wonder why that was.

I have two new stainless 43mm pistons and all the seals from Wemoto, just short of a caliper to fit  Good prices on that web site, wish I knew about that a few months ago. Cheers for the link.

Thanks for the offer hillbilly but I found a 43mm caliper at Stoneleigh today. I have a spare 38mm caliper if anyone needs one now ;)
