Spokes?

Has anyone had spokes re plated?Do they have to be stripped first?
Does new plate stick to old Cadmium/Zinc? HELP Please :?? .

Time they go through the whole process the old plating is automatically stripped off anyway

had some chromed for a bike 5 years ago and they are still great but cheaper to buy new stainless ones

You don't need to worry about stripping anything.
Your main worry will be the condition of the base steel. If the spokes are pitted/rusty they will need polishing otherwise they will look crap

I use brick cleaner from b&q or wickes to strip the zinc from metal parts before replating.The problem with zincing is the platers will strip and plate the part whether it is pitted or not so this is a quick and easy way to strip back to clean bare metal so that you can prepare the surface yourself.Remember nobody loves your bike more than you so a bit of elbow grease will help to avoid disappointment when they are replated.

I don't just zinc any work sent to me i polish it first
cant see the point of using brick cleaner as zinc will
polish off easy and any left will come off in the natural
process of re plating

ok.i'll rephrase that. The zinc platers i have dealt with will zinc what you give them and do not polish first. :D
