My Zed Bemsee Thunderbike race bike project

#1 PostAuthor: fuknuckle » Sat Aug 15, 2009 10:04 pm

Having just sorted a deal with my girlfreinds stepdad I have just bought his Zed off him, my plan is to put modern running gear in it (ohlins forks etc) paint it in Lawson colours and run it in the bemsee Thunderbikes series next year.
The bike at the moment is a full on drag bike with extended swingarm and all the drag associated goodies, including carbon wheels and many other trick bits,
I am going to take it to bits and brace and monoshock the frame to take a gsxr 1000 rear end, then put on some ohlins forks mate it all up and have the geometry setup properly then some work on the dyno detuning it for torque (180bhp makes it fall well out of the power to weight limit) and then grin my head off when I race it next year.
I currently ride a streetfighter ZXR H1 but always fancied trying to muscle a big monster about, anyone with any hint or tips to get them to handle please feel free to share, I will also be on the lookout for a full exhaust and possibly other bits.
please bear with me if I ask daft questions, it is my first Zed and dont know a lot about them, cheers peeps, now a quick pic

Doner bike looks pretty awesome as it is. Pity the pictures are a little on the small side, unlike the one of you looking sultry in your pants!

Seriously..... good luck with the project, this will be another one I look forward to watching.

Great to see a fella with racing on his mind, i can see you've already got upside down forks on the bike but why go for the rear end change ? fine if you want the look but it could save you alot of cash and hassle to run twinshocks on the rear , we have found very good results with our one offs made by hagon, maxton do em too but a little more pricey. Our z1000r forks were done by maxton and for our rider to come in and say the handling was sublime with his many years of riding big classics was good enough for me ! Good luck with the build ![img][/img]

Just a quick update, sorry no pics yet :?? my project is picking up pace now, full exhaust is being made at exhaustcraft, ive got a unitrack frame to start fitting either gsxr1000 or jmc swingarm into with a wilbers race shock (depends which on will be easier to fit) got a set of 40mm lectrons to put on and play with, going to rob the gsxr1000 race internal kitted front end out of my old race bike and get the carbon dymags in, getting really excited now. Pics to follow as soon as I make a start :D

I was reading an old copy of Classic Bike I think it was the other day and there was a feature on that bike along with a pic. of the 3 people behind it. Very impressive.

Just setup the silencer and link pipe, not welded yet,i intend to weld this up as is,i have left the length a bit long after the second bend, two reasons, one i can use the rear exhaust hanger to hang the silencers and two,the link pipe can be shortened to own taste.if this is ok i will weld it up in the morning.
