Dave Marsden was right!
Did anyone see his mention of "Kawasaki's mistake" in Classic Motorcycle & Mechanics" some years ago.
A Z-nut has found one and has put it on Ebay. <Item number: 200091220430>.
To save you looking it up the descriptions for the item reads:
This item is for those that have a lean towards memorabilia. It's not your everyday "idiot light" cluster cover for a Z1B. This time Kawasaki or (KHI) made a big mistake. I don't know how many slipped through to the production line or if there was a recall soon after release.
The Error...Have a look at the oil pressure light label. It says "CHARGE", where it most definitely should have read "OIL" (I'll even settle for "PRESS" for pressure). I had previously read an article by UK's Dave Marsden about this error and I must admit, at the time I didn't believe it! Then I found this one, well used. I wonder If the owner ever realised.
I don't expect its value to run into the $10,000's. However, there are many other Z nuts like myself out there. Good luck!
Has anyone seen one in UK?... RegardZ ~Garn <The complete Z-nut>

Guys, the above query is solved, someone has just posted the article I was after...
That article you mentioned is by Bob Berry and was published in Classic Mechanics No. 21 Oct/ Nov 1987 (page 66). The article is headed "A Z1 Kawasaki from Spares" and talks of Dave Marsden's Z1. He had one of these instrument panels with the same error and he says .. Someone got the translation wrong in Japan!
