Fork spindle has stripped lower leg!!! HELP

Me black Z1000 has a stripped fork bottom, where the spindle/axel screws in The l/hand side (the side without a disc )

They are mid 90's GSXR USD forks



Heres the offending side - note the temporary "bodge-job" to ensure the front wheel stays where it should



I need it repaired...... Its the l/hand side thats Cream Crackered. The spindle screws into the l/hand fork and locates positively. The r/hand fork hold the spindle with pinch bolts, so the forks can "naturally" find there spacing, so as not to pull them out of parallel

Anyone got the skill to do a repair on them for me - for beer tokens

Though best fix maybe to turn the spindle thread down a size or two - then re-tap fork leg a size up, and make a sleeve to fit inside, to take spindle

Any other fix ideas welcome (except from Paully ) Cheers

hmm, from wot you say and I understand, sounds like the spindle screws into the fork and is clamped by the other fork. I wouldn't f**k about if there is any danger the spindle coming out.

I would also shot no at turning the spindle down - remember as you take 1 or 2 mm off, you reduce the area much more so making it wekaer - you don't want it to shear either.

II would suggest putting a heilcoil insert into the fork - this is in theor DIY if you have drill press.

Or ring round and find out how much it wold cost to get it done peroperly - it is an area that is not work skimping on.

I'd agree with 02 Piggsy. Removing metal might leave it a bit weak.
Personally I'd buy a pair of bent forks of ebay (probably cost about £40) and unscrew the casting and swap with the ebay item.

You could of course remove the fork leg, it'll match the missing disk..........

Single feked fork shouldn't be too difficult or expensive to get a hold of. Repair job is a total no no.

leave the spindle as it is and tap the fork leg out to take a new sleeve
it is perfectly safe to do this
or get a slightly longer spindle made with a locking nut on the outside

any machine shop can sort this easily and it's no big deal

You must be a right ******** to strip the thread out of that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Swap the bottom mount but they are hard to get off the leg.
