Just found this thread, How much does it hang on ? my purple one does it, ....1105 , GPZ pistons, 9oo head, flowed, bigger valves, !000 barrels bored, std cams, rs36's.... tried to sort it several times....Timing, carbs.... gave up... put it down to exhaust (straight through) uninformed thought, but thought it was a back pressure wavelength thing.
Would love it crisp though.
Let me know if you sort it.

Been having a play - again!

Back with the 38's (145 mains). Haven't touched the bike for weeks - but it started fairly easily.

This time tried altering ignition settings. Tried advancing it a good 10/15 degree's, but still wants to hang up on revs

BUT...... :P

I think it has got to be the lumpy cams...... Thinking about it....

If it holds the revs when you rev it, the throttle stop (thumb screw on the carbs) is probably set a bit to much "open". If the cams are lumpy - they are reknowned for poor idling/slow running.
So I must have to open the slide a bit more than is ideal - and if the slow running system (pilot stuff) isn't spot on, this will exacerbate the situation.
So, when I blip the throttle, the cams come into there own and the revs hang up - as the slides are open a smidge too much!
The bike revs and runs OK - off idle and revs drop if the throttle stop is wound back (so she stalls when throttle shut).

On another point - the Odessey battery I bought a while back is bloody ACE :!: I charged it up once (when I got it) and I've had a bit of a play around with the bike months ago - kept starting it. The bikes just been left, and switched it on today - and spun up like mad - loads of battery power  Highly recommended

Oh, by the way, were you trying to look 'sultry' in that pic, or does it just come naturally :hys :hys

Mark

Mine runs 1260, ported head, bigger valves, megacycle cams, 36's, the needles are lifted and a V&H and a ridiculous amount of ignition timing(can't remember what).

It hangs up on throttle return and if I'm at low revs in a higher gear I get pinking.

I just make sure the revs are high enough and ramp the shit out of it.

This is probably of no use what so ever.

Thats interesting Gus - I did set the timing to about 50 + degs advance, which helped a bit :??

My black Z1075 pinks even at 38 degs  on load even at 4000 rpm :!:

I may end up going full race throttle - No idle - just stall on shut throttle - last resort

For some reason 26 deg. advance is ringing a bell

I have heard that the larger vacuum's created by the bigger bore motors tend to pull on the slides so they don't return easily.

Maybe adjusting the return spring may help but it will make for a stiffer throttle and also I haven't checked my throttle closing cable adjustment lately in case this is not doing its job properly.

We could go on the theory of tickover = stationary

Stationary + tickover = no fun :(

flatnackering it = speed

Speed = fun :lol:

Fun always cancels out no fun

Disregard tickover :rir

I don't half talk some Jackson Pollocks
