z1000 carbs Q.

#1 PostAuthor: 02GF74 » Mon Oct 05, 2009 7:40 pm

should the pilot jet - looks like the one in piccy below - be drilled all the way through?

as far as I can see, there is a hollow tube after the threaded bit with 4 holes drilled into the side (on left in piccy) but no hole all the way through (seems to me they are not drilled).... but the slot in the base has a blind hole.

nextly, what size are the o-rings on the pilot air screw - anyone know where to buy some?

what effect will a missing o-ring give?

O-ring measured to be 4 mm I.D, 6 mm O.D - any one comfirm?

seems not too rare e.g.

O2GF74, any Mikuni pilot-jet the I've seen has always had a hole right thru, albeit, some are very hard to sight thru. I would see this one as a blocked or manufactuing error.

There should be a hole all the way through. Thats where the fuel gos. It's very small, like 0.2mm. The cross drilled holes are where the air from the air screw mixes with the fuel before entering the carb bore.

arse - so that is what my problem is.

the hole from the screw slot side goes a fair old way but does not go all the way through - it may be the the wire I am poking, which is small, less than 0.5 mm for sure, is too big.

It makes sense it goes all the way through since a) that is how the fuel would go - the holes in the side are for air mixing plus b) why bother drilling a blind hole??

So how do I clear it?

I guess I am looking at replacement jets. :(

thx ... but I wold much rather recycle mine i.e. try to fix them than throw but I'll bear that in mind. i'll have a go tonight trying to clear them :) or wreck them :(

Don't suppose anyone know the o-ring size for the pilot jet?
