Help with DVLA forms on re-build Z1000A1

Guys, I need some help please. I want to re-register my bike after 24 years in boxes, am re-building currently (slowly). The DVLA site is helpful but I get lost here;

To register a vehicle which is not recorded at the DVLA because it missed the 1983 deadline you will need to complete application form V765 (Got That) Applications for original marks are considered in the first instance by vehicle enthusiasts clubs (Is this Club one of those?).
To apply you should:

complete form V55/5
complete form V765

provide a recent photograph of the vehicle (Will bits be acceptable or do i have to wait till it's complete?) and documentary evidence, such as the original log book, a pre-83 tax disc or MOT certificate, linking it to the original number (Don't have any of these but still looking is this a major issue?) The application should be sent to a relevant authorised owners or enthusiasts club to be endorsed. You will not be obliged to join the club but you may be charged a fee for the service and the club may wish to inspect the vehicle.

Hi Colin.

I'll try and expalin what I did.

If you don't have a registration number or log book then you will need a dating letter from the Club President "Jerry". Supply him with Frame and Engine number.

You have to supply:

V55/5
MOT Certificate (using frame number)
Insurance (using frame number)
Driving license (both parts)
Registration fee 55 quid (if it is the same price?)
Tax 36.30 quid (if it is the same price?)
Utility bill
Dating letter.

After supplying this I had to take the bike (in a van on a trailer etc. because it is not taxed) to your local DVLA office for them to check the numbers. (They may come to you if you ask but I'm not sure.)
This took 3 minutes when I went and I got the paperwork within 10 minutes including an age related registration number and authorisation to get a number plate.

Don't be put off by the inspection the picture in my thread is how it looked when I got it checked.

Thanks for the help, I think I get it (?) but it seems it has to be somewhere near completion at least before you can do this, yes?
All I have is boxes of bits, I was trying to see if I could do anything before I started assembling as I am bored (engine bits away for checking) and want to get a little progress whenever I can.....

If you have the registration number can't you just apply for a replacement log book because you lost yours? Worth a try.

Doing it the DVLA way then YES the bike has to be road legal, MOT tested and insured.

Speak to your local VRO (Vehicle Registration Office) and see what they suggest.
There is an office at Nottingham but there may be one nearer to you.

Every LVLO is different, some are "Jobs Worths" few are even pleasant any more - If they follow their own rules then you will need to M.O.T. it first. Most offices now will want to inspect the bike, (Oh, and this is always assuming that the bike didn't have a decent number in which case they will have flogged it off a long time ago . . . and if they havn't already flogged it, don't think that you can flog it as we will deem it non transferable IF we let you have it back :roll: ) call them first as it is not unusual to turn up with a bike, try to register it and then they tell you it will need the VIN inspecting . . and even though the bike is 20 feet away you will have to bring it back in 3 weeks time when the inspector can read the numbers . . . Sorry, I can't read them because I have to wear a Haz Jacket to go into the car park and we only have the One and we might catch germs off it if we share, anyway the rest of us are illiterate and can't read numbers, or we didn't bring our glasses with us, but to tell the truth we can't be arsed as it means getting out of this nice warm chair, putting a Haz Jacket on and going out into the cold car park to make sure that you weren't lying when you wrote that number down . . or that the M.O.T. man wasn't blind when he wrote the number down either, then again we have to charge you £55 and make a little effort for you don't we? Have you brought your Licence and I.D. papers Mr Brett? I know you have been coming here for the last 15 years and of course I know that it is you and you are not Bin Laden but the data protection act says that we can't keep your photocopies on file any longer, so can you go back home and fetch them please . . . Oh, and re-schedule the inspection for another day when you DO have the paperwork with you. . . . . . . Ooopss . . . did I just go off on One ? :evil:

when i registered my z1 import ,i got a certificate off rick,as he was the classic kawasaki club leader,took that and some other docs to register it and get an age related number,dint have to take bike or anything,only took about half an hour,and a parking fine,but i dint care,i had a reg. :wink: that was at the manchester office.

WoW Guys,
seems there is a huge difference between people's experiences here! I hope I get a better response than RB has (sure I've met the guy you spoke to in several incarnations Rick!!).
I still only have a box or two of bits and a plan, so I am not in a huge hurry and need to see the Manchester office by the sounds of it!
I tried the DVLA site and got completely lost a couple of times, don't know what I would get out of the reg check but I will have a go now and see what comes up.
At the moment I have downloaded and filled in a V62 with details of my missing log book, hope that and £25 will be enough to get me a replacement. Is this then enough to get the plate made up or do i have to resort to sacrificing goats on the local LVLO steps? :shock:

But, Before you read any further . . Do You know the reg number - because we have Two totally different scenarios ensuing . . . Fingers crossed that you know the original number :wink:

The Once "Friendly" DVLA / LVLO has become money orientated, like most things in modern Britain it HAS to make a profit. . . gone are the days of actually being a "service" :roll:
By all means, call them, and once you have got past the digital bird, and then the bird in Swansea (that speaks with a strange accent ((That ISN'T Welsh!)) and then gone thru the press 1 for english, 2 for welsh, 3 for Arabic) . . . Going off on One again aren't I?) . . :twisted: I only wanted a bit of bike history after filling in forms paying the fee getting no responce and trying the personal contact approach I totally lost it now they wont even Fecking talk to me :roll:

Reg & LVLO

Right,
I think this is how I'm going to try this after all the advice and warnings (thanks to each one of you for the help!). I do know the reg of the bike and have the frame no so I can ask for a replacement log book (£25) which I think is best to begin with! That means sending in the V62.
If there are a few problems I will have to deal with those as they arise, I obviously can't go much further till the bike is near enough together should they ask me to present it for "proof of ownership".
I will steer clear of the "Q" route and not bother Jerry for a letter just yet and kind of (fingers crossed) just hope the V62 is an "Easy" job for our freinds at DVLA.
I did do a reg check last night and nothing came up. I will follow instructions on screen and give them a ring unless this is going down the "Q" route unwittingly :?? ?????? Anyone done that on here?
