Z750 Race Bike

My latest project.Having raced a variety of bikes from single cylinders(Tigcraft H****,Hejira Suzuki,TZR125RR with an XBR500 motor),a couple of old zeds,CBR 600,Yzf 750(first highside-flat out in 3rd ) and my last bike a H**** K4,I decided to have a break from the racing.That was until my Dave offered me his old 750 earlystock,I couldn't resist it.It needs a bit of work to put it back on the track but its got some nice bits-Metchamex swing arm,Koni shocks,Goodridge,steering damper,Micron brace,raask rear sets,brand new Avon race tyres.Going to fettle it up over the winter for next season.Will update throughout the winter.

Been a bit quiet on the bike building front,was on holiday to Scarborough and managed to take in the Gold Cup at Olivers Mount.Would love to have a run round there when I finish off the Zed.Getting there slowly,got a cracking set of forks from a local breakers(gs500 rear wheel and 20quid ).Will make a start on them tomorrow and hopefully get the bike back on its wheels.

Looks nice and uncluttered. I see you are running CV's, how do you get on with setting them up? Are you using a dyno or road testing?

The previous owner had the head done and the carbs rejetted and set up on a dyno,think it was making about 70 brake.

I raced a Z 750 L4 in Earlystocks for a few seasons.
I ended up with a broken leg but don't regret doing it as it was great fun.

I will try and dig out some photos of the bike.

Treated the Zed to a new shed,waiting on it getting delivered next week.Using one of those metal sheds at the moment(leaks,drips condensation,cold) not ideal.Got a sump gasket the day,going to whip the sump off and check the strainer as I ran a big end in a second hand motor a couple of years ago,it only lasted 1 practice,1 qualifing and shit itself half way round the warm up lap (took the motor to bits and found the pick up full of crud-lesson learned).

The new shed arrived and was finished in about 2 days.Now that I have somewhere reasonably warm but above all dry its time to start working on the bike.Over the last couple of weeks the forks have been stripped/seals changed/15wt oil used/17mm preload spacers fitted.Turned a couple of sleeves on the lathe so I can fit fork gaitors and micron brace(the gaitors aren't everyones cup of tea but thet serve a purpose).Fitted forks to yokes.
Rebuilt calipers fitted race pads,lock calipers,bled brakes,fitted mudguard.Will post a couple of fotis at the weekend.

It's looking good already - you need to lose the green background on the Z750 badge but that's just being picky... Do you have to stick with the standard brake calipers?

Hi Chris,never thought about the badges,I've kept the standard calipers and discs,its got briaded lines,dot 5.1 fluid,sintered pads,rebuilt calipers(seals/piston in one caliper) and a NC30 master cylinder.

Hi there
I,ve changed the title of this post.At first I thought my bike was a GPZ750R1,but the more I work on it I think it is a late model L4.It has a different CDi same as the uni-trak,the thing that was throwing me was the frame number R1.Anyway just going to call it a Zed .
