z1b swingarm

#1 PostAuthor: chainoiler » Mon Aug 24, 2009 5:41 am

Hi all, I am restoring a Z1B and have come accross an interesting problem. While attaching the chain guard I found the holes don't line up with the swingarm. The brackets on the swingarm are about an inch further apart than the holes on the guard. I thought it must be a dodgy repro guard so I checked my Z1A and found that the Z1B swingarm is actually an inch longer.
Checked the longer one out and can't find any sign that it has been extended or altered in any other way.
Has anyone come accross this before or can anyone shed any light as
I've never seen this before.
Cheers

Chainoiler, it sounds as so a very professional job has been done on that swing-arm. I can't understand why they would cut the swing arm in between those chain guard mounts to extend it! Perhaps, they strengthened the tubes by inserting smaller diameter tubes then welded.
I don't believe that Kawasaki made an extended swing-arm for the Z1 Series.

Pigford, I noticed you have an extended swing-arm on one of your machines. Have you seen one that looks standard, except it's an inch longer? Is it better handling at high speed? (better cruising?)

Not that....The A4 & 1000 have the same length swing-arm as the Z1 series, hence, the same length chain guard.

Thanks for the input guys, as far as it being welded I noticed nothing unusual when it was sandblasted prior to powdercoating so for now it remains a mystery.
