oil pressure gauge
hi will speedflow looks good thanks for taking the time to look into this much appreciated cheers noel
Gauge arrived this morning £39.28. Appears good quality. Quickly knocked up an adaptor from some ally bar and got it fitted. From cold the needle will read off the scale when revved. Once oil has warmed up it reads around 3psi at 3000rpm and blipping the throttle sees 8psi at 9000 rpm. This was done stationary. Sweep of needle is very smooth and doesn't jump around. How's that compared with the Marshall gauge Pigford ?.

Will, yeah, the Marshall reads to the MAX for the first minute or two... then settles down. When really hot, hardly registers under 2500 rpm.... but shows about 3psi over 3500 rpm. Oil type will effect this reading a bit... I'm using Amsoil Synthetic Mineral 10/40w (Debbens)
You're adaptor looks 100% better too

Zed1015 - You've beat me to it
Can you tell us all the external thread req'd (for the gallery) and the internal thread (for the gauge) please.
Also, what size did you do the bore 'through' the adaptor?
Thanks.

Thread for the oil gallery is M14 x 1.5mm and the gauge is 1/8 npt (tapered) but at a push you can use m10 x 1.0 mm for the gauge which is close enough. I did the hole for the oil feed at 4mm for no particular reason other than it looked about right and didn't want to weaken the threaded stub to much.
wow found an old thread just about my latest worry
my old pressure gauge (made by Drag Specialities) started playing up due to worn mechanics inside, it did read about 3psi@3000rpm hot, but it was opened few times, the needle had fallen off and was put back on so was not calibrated any more. I've bought this liquid filled Marshall http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360167249040? ... 1497.l2649 , looks really well made. On startup it reads about 12psi@3000rpm and oil temp 20C , as the oil warms up the readings drop to 2.5psi@50C, 2psi@60C, 0psi@70C and higher. Considering this gauge is advertised to have 2% accuracy at middle of the scale looks like I have not enough pressure, should read 2.8@60C, or can these be calibrated ? The dash oil light operates faultless - comes off as soon as engine is started, doesn't fluctuate, on when engine stopped. The warmed engine operating temp about 80C the gauge will usually read 0. Might be worrying too much but do your gauges behave the same??

I fitted a mesh guard for the German Rally - and the gauge registers a bit longer now as the oil doesn't cool down so much/fast.
I'm now running Morris 20/50w and it reads off the scale on start-up (+15psi) until started to warm (couple mins) then reads anywhere between 0 - 9 psi depending on weather......
Back from HULL last Tuesday - p*ssing with rain on the M1 - reading between 6 & 9 psi. Once rain stopped M42
dropped to about 2 psi. Whlist in Germany (warm & sunny) zero reading in the heat
