The wiring should deffo be so that it can't start in gear - but I won't have a neutral light - no clocks. But that doesn't mean I can't run the switch right?

That's right Ratch..... You could still use the switch.

Awesome. I'll amend the diagram.

Can the neutral switch take that kind of current?

Mine's wired as

remote Ign on/off

remote start on/off (only starts if it is in neutral)

If the bike stalls I can start it in gear with a handle bar button if I pull the clutch in.

The switch should handle it OK, its only holding the solenoid down as the main of the current goes through the thick cables, battery/solenoid/starter. Crofty

Cheers dude.

It seems Wimborne is the place for messing with bikes.

At some point before xmas, I'll be picking up my frame and front end from a second round of mods from Ferndown - and dropping off me motor to Debbens for rebore / rebuilt.

Then in Jan, cosmetics and paint, full assembly and should be ready for a blast in late winter early Spring.

Only thing I don't have is a seat - I want a custom cafe racer type of thing but it needs to be built on a metal frame that can clip on to the frame - unless whoever does it can build the hinge on.

Quick query lads.

Here are the new rearsets.

Upon close inspection, you can see that the threaded end of the shifter rod obviously has no way of clamping onto the gearbox shaft, like a Z one does.

Do I need to weld a Z shift clamp on or have one machined up and screwed on?

Or is there an aftermarket clamp that will do this job?

I used the arm of an R1 (see pic)
It has the same splines as the ZED and is alloy too.
The rose joint has male threads attached so you will need to unscrew that bit of threaded bar from your link rod in order to fit.

i'd pick up an old gearshift, cut off the actual arm and then weld a bracket on to accept a rose joint like on the other end of the rod you have there. Then get it chromed or refinished however you want.

Also someone might know of a clamp off a std model (eg GPZ or Zephyr) that might fit straight on and only require rose joint

Yoy need a rose joint on the other end as well (sperical rod end bearing) check it isn't a LH thread. For the arm you need something like that:

I think R1 ones fit Z1000 splines if I remember right but check to make sure before paying for one. GPZ1100 linkage will do it, Other than that Harris will sell you one or get a normal gearlever cut it off about a inch long drill a hole in it and mount it at right angles.

You're correct, R1 fit the Zeds.

The other end is rose-jointed:

I found this R1 rod on eBay but it;s not worth £40+ for a tiny piece - plus the part I need is male threaded - that won't screw to my rod which is also male ended.

Yea I saw that one, but you also need one on the other end or rose jointed arm as per R1. I expect you have a threaded rod put in with loctite in there, if not it is easy enough to make another rod. If you get just a rose joint to fit onto your rod, the arm you can make from an old gear lever until you find a "nice" one at reasonable cost.
