Timothy Comerford wrote:Hi Mr Puffin. I knew it was only a matter fo time till the Septic became a topic for discussion. You can't keep a good thing down! I have only done a couple of hundred miles on my one.. It goes well but the orignal shocks were knackeres. I now have a set of Hagons thanks to Paul,
Good luck with the re-build ..........and enjoy the begrugers!!
Tim.
:D

Yes i suppose it was bound to happen Tim, it does not seem to long ago that the J`s and twin shock GPZ`s were viewed as the devils own offspring and would they ever be classics or allowed in the club. best not mention the unitracs  Time marches on. Another few years and Paul with have several septics.........
Are you pleased with the Hagons performance, im looking for a Budget shock to replace the original Air ones, just to make the bike look lighter and not so lumpy

With the electrics now more or less sorted or at least working i have moved up front removing the stock headlamp brackets

Image

Revealing perfect tubes :) As part of the(more) streamlined look, simple headlamp brackets will be fitted. The air balance tube will be removed and the holes in the legs plugged. The other fork leg will require drilling tap and an air valve. Lock stop looks to have taken a hit so will have to have a close look at that lower clamp when it comes apart. New seals are on the way, i will need dust covers

The first of the ordered in parts has arrived with a bargain manual camchain adjuster from MPL :bla

Some messing around with various rearsets i found these water boiler GSXR ones matched the angle of the frame. Unfortunatly i feel they move the pegs too far back in fact 26cm further back than the lazy stock pegs

Some more digging and a found the 916 brake mastercylinder which looks pretty cool. I hope its up to pumping the Zeds caliper :?:

Image

and some wood to make templates for the hangers cheaper and more forgiving than wasting alloy plate :) im aiming for 16-17cm further back than stock. i think i really need a 4-1 in place before finalizing the peg placement. Anyone got one for sale

Moving on With a couple of spare hours this afternoon i got the hacksaw out and removed some of the original seat mount brackets. To clear the way to fabricate the seat/tailunit.

The seat rails are probably going to need tweeking upwards as they sit very low compared with a J or GPZ

Parts :| as usual slow things down while you have to wait, but its all part of the process  Good to know things are in transit......

UT clocks

and the Kerker i won on ebay last night :D $125 + shipping  Instant street cred even for a Septic

makes absolutely no differance Rich, the m/c will function no matter how it is placed as long as the resevoir is placed higher and the system is bled  The main point here being keeping it clean.

I\m looking at Christmas before the kerker arrives from the US :| So i have robbed the one off my J just to help get the footrests placed. One thing that is very obvious :?? The swingarm pivot is further back on the septic (compared with a j ) so the link pipe is going to need a little work, so im stuck anyway as i dont want to chop this one
The Kerker does look cool though

The Headers are in real good shape with only some light rust + 1 small dent. The can is split at the end cap bolt hole and has obviously had a hard knock at some point

Image

This dent is hopefully out of sight

The Baffle is missing too so im thinking cut the can down open up the outlet and make/fit a larger baffle like GB did in one of his builds.

Fingers crossed Hansen will round with the Boses for the frame/footrest mounts + tube for the seat rails at the weekend so i can get moving. Would be nice to have the frame back from paint before Christmas
