Last but not least is the front mudguard...which i thought was i pretty good shape, but not according to Simon as you can see buy the amount of filler he's had to use... :??

That's it for now...i'll post more pics of the paint job process when Si e-mails them to me.

Hi Guy & Si
(that rhymes don't it?)

Great update on your thread here. Fascinating to be able to see the panels restored stage by stage.

Amazing what lurks under apparently reasonable paintwork.

Can we see pics of the treatment inside the tank by Simon - guessing that might have been rusty or old sealant :?:

Keep 'em coming ladz.

Had another e-mail from Simon today with a update on how the paint job is coming along.

The tank has had the badge holes soldered, drilled, tapped and helicoiled...so are are all sorted now :D

The panels have been blocked, sanded and sealed in white sealer and are ready for the basecoat :D :D

The front mudguard has also been sanded and is ready for priming :D :D :D

See pics below...

Must be a tiny helicoil Guy to accept the badge screws!
I can see he is doing a great job so far, I will be contacting Simon when I need my project doing.

Your not wrong Jim...just had another e-mail from Simon...bloody hell he doesn't hang about

First pic is of the tail piece now with a coat or two of metallic black...

Image

Then the stripes unmasked and then 5 coats of Kosmic Kandy apple red over the top.
There is no clear coat yet...so the next stage is to flat it back and lacquer.

Had another e-mail from Simon last night showing the tail piece...this time with the sun on it.

The pic was taken with a phone which couldn't quite cope with the glare, hence the white parts  but i think it shows off the metallic quite nicely.

I'm sure Si will update me with more soon :D

Had another e-mail from Simon yesterday, saying "The panels and mudguard have now been wet sanded by hand after they were lacquered, and ready for finish coat of lacquer".

Image

"The tank has now been sealed and began the filler work"
