Ironic thing is there's no air screws, they're blanked off, just a fuel screw underneath, but I will swap 'em round in 'due course' :roll:

Good job GB, if your fuel leak don't go away, try plumbers ptfe tape around the end of the t piece. I picked that tip off the KZ650 site and as precaution did all 6 joints on me 650 carbs, 2 years on and still no leaks. Crofty

Ok, wheeled the thing towards the door this morning & after a couple of kicks it fired up. :lol:

Pipes are quieter than I expected, but did deposit another load of shit all over my drive.

Image

I ran the bike for about 5 minutes & whilst it appeared a little smokey from 3&4 that seems to be because the choke plunger on No.3 wasn't seating properly, things cleared up once that was pushed fully home.

I thought I'd check the regulator whilst it was running;

Another part for the bin. :roll:

There was some oil pressure;

Overall the bike sounded pretty good, there were certainly no nasty noises. :D

Click the pic for the bike running for the first time in 17 years. :shock:

She's hiding a couple of dark secrets Ian, :roll:

RH switchgear is completely disconnected, so the other day I shorted across the solenoid terminals to see if the engine would spin over.........

....................... well the starter motor spun, but that was it.

I then came across this in a box of spares that came with the bike;

Image

I whipped of the alternator cover & found the starter clutch to be locked solid, which was obviously the reason the idler gear had been removed.
I delved a little deeper & removed the rotor, which just about fell off, it is badly scored & the end of the crank ain't looking too pretty either.

The only way I could get the large starter gear to spin was to remove both thrust washers & the damper. :shock: Certainly not a 'long term' solution. :roll:

Looks like it'll need a new rotor at least. :roll:

The other side of the engine hasn't escaped the 'butchery' either, look at the state of the nut on the end of the crank. :shock: :shock: :shock:

Some people should not be allowed near bikes with a tool box.

I am sure you will get her sorted Steve.

Can't expect the earth for that money, bound to be some secrets when you delve in deeper, we forget the age of these things and the past life they may have lead. Looks good for the money. :wink:

Keep at it steve itll come good in the end
let us know how you sort the stater clutch problem as i got same on mine
but when i rang Zpower to order the thinner damper they said
NLA but still insisted its safe to run without the thrush washer and the damper in place.
Done about a 100 miles on mine this week took the altenator cover off
this morning to have a check and all seems ok in there.
Sorry if this sounds like a thread hi jack.

Steve your carbs look like A1 rather than A2 with corrector jets fitted? and Z1parr I don.t think your carbs are A1 carbs although they're all usable. I'm going off the top of my head here so may be mistaken.

Deffo air corrector jets in there Steven & deffo 26mm, but after all these years it's tricky finding out what was original.
