Wow al
That is one amazing reply-
Firstly the order was 4-3-1-2
Fuel was in the carbs.
Plugs 3,2&1 were still fitted during pot #4 was tested,,
Plug 4 was not fitted during test on #3 & so on.

All plugs are straw brown colour.

I will test again tomorrow, with no fuel & colder engine - that will be safer as I burnt my bloody hand getting the gauge out

Thanks again
Stu

You should take all the plugs out and perform the test on the engine at room temperature. Ideally drain the float bowls and ensure the petrol tap is off.

Compression tests give you an idea, but are not necessarily especially accurate and the values recorded should not be taken as gospel, unless you've wedged up for a profession tool, however the comparison between cylinders is the important thing ie they're all in the same ball park.

The fact that all the plugs are the right colour is a good start. As long as it's running OK I would suggest getting it on a dyno for a real picture of how it's running - my local place only charges £30 for a run and you get some seriously useful info.

You have too much time on your hands.
If the plugs are all consistant and it runs ok i'd hide the comp tester and just ride the thing.
The motor is all fresh isn't it ?
You need to put a good few hundred miles on it while the weather allows to give the motor time to bed in .
Give it a comp test when it's time to re-torque the head and check the shims in 500 miles or so.

:D :D
Your right zed1015 - Far too much time. :D :D

I was fiddling again today.

Garage temp was 15 degrees
Float bowls drained
All plugs removed - Results below
#1- 175 psi
#2 -170 psi
#3 -165 psi
#4 -180 psi

Previous results below
#1 - 160 psi
#2 - 155 psi
#3 - 165 psi
#4 - 175 psi

So Its all back together and away to get some more miles on it.

And I promise not to tinker with it any-more ( until I get it on the Dyno)

Thanks

Stu

Had a very nice letter in from DVLA yesterday :D

After around 18 months of unbelievable DVLA, Police hassles which I wont bore you all with.

My age related reg number for my green 1075 project turned up :D :D :D

My new number plate is on its way now & should be fitted by the weekend.

I would like to take this opertunity to thank Rick Brett & Jerry Humpage for the help & assistance on this matter over the last few months.
A few times I nearly gave up & thought about breaking the bike up.
