Did you have any luck getting round this Steve?
I've got the same issue but haven't figured a way of not twisting the lock washers. They are the same thickness as the ones I removed ( but are not Kawasaki items).

Have you tried with an air impact wrench? The short sharp shocks may 'knock' the bolt round before the tab washer has chance to snag and be drawn round with it, especially wit a drop of synthetic oil under the head. the actual torque, beyond being tight, isn't too critical.
If you wanted to run the wheel round to Woodley I'd have a go with you if you don't have an impact wrench and compressor.
Cheers,
Mark.

I seem to have minimised the distortion by taking all the sharp edges from the underside of the bolt heads (new bolts used), and polishing them on my buffing wheel. A bit of oil and gradual tightening and they are tight.
In the Clymer book it states the the torque setting for the disc bolts at 30 foot-pounds which seams high ?
The original Z1 service manual states 140-190 in pounds ( 12 - 16 ft lb ).
Bit of a difference . What's the right figure ?
