z1b handle bar options

#1 PostAuthor: bob fell » Tue May 22, 2012 7:18 pm

Hi guy`s
I have a Z1B which is not standard but is slowly evolving into a nice looking bike, slightly street fighter look....marsahall 4-1 exhaust, it has no rear mudguard which looks good, alloy rim stainless spoke wheels and recently I have put a cut down seat on it and I`m happy with the changes I am planning on putting a short mudguard on the front which are available from Z power my question is about handle bars..... I have seen some cool bikes on the projects forum and some seem to have flatter bars like drag bars, are these available and can they go straight on a Z1B... are there any issues with cable lengths etc

any advice appreciated

Bob

I put drag bars ( from Z1 Ent.) on my Z1-A, but to get the brake master cylinder to clear the fork tops and get a reasonable ergonomic angle, I had to fit 15mm bar risers. Though I have seen other bikes that haven't needed to do this? but it's something to be aware of.

I've got straight drag bars on mine......had to make some nice risers.....all cables are for a z650....a fair bit shorter than z1000 cables.

thanks for the replies
Can you buy risers or do you have to make them? is there a kit.. like bars and risers available for a Z1B ? It`s starting to sound a bit complicated

I've used the MX ones that are readily available...but look crap on an old bike? I need to find an old school set that just uses longer bolts rather than the offset bolts that this type use. (too wide)
Because I have a bikini fairing I've managed to soldier on with the standard cables but the 650 items sound like the way to go.

Bob fell......anyone who knows how to use a lathe or mill could knock up a set of risers for you in a few hours.....i just gave the original clamps to a machinist and stated that i "wanted a pair of these made but out of alloy/stainless steel instead and lengthened by about 3 inches"

Pretty sure you can get long or short cables for Zeds, doesn't taller risers rather defeat the object of having flatter bars ?

Thanks again, cool pix too, I can actually get blocks of alloy (off cuts) from work ;) I guess a way to go would be to measure the distance of the position of the brake and clutch lever from the floor and then figure out how big the riser would have to be. Can I use any bars as long as they are the correct diameter? The flat bars really enhance the look of the street fighter type style

Big John......i'd rather ride at 100mph with slightly raised flat bars than standard cowhorns.......feels less windy.....and feels like you have more control/weight over the front end.......not as good in very slow traffic to cowhorns though
