Zephyr swingarm to a Z1000

#1 PostAuthor: FreddaAbborre » Sun Sep 18, 2011 8:20 pm

Should fit a Zephyr swingarm to my A2. Is there a way that I can fit it without a need to modify the frame? I'm thinking about the shocks mount, they measure 252mm apart on the frame and 292mm apart on the swingarm. can I make some sort of collar or so that will increase the lenght of the frame mounts?

Zephyr swing arm fitting

#2 PostAuthor: Reecy » Sun Sep 18, 2011 10:19 pm

Fred,

I did this conversion a few years back on one of my Z1000's, it worked very well, have a look for my thread in the Projects section.

I can't remember what the thread was titled as but it shouldn't be too hard to find

If you need any specifics then get in touch

Regards

I'm fitting one to my Z1000.

You can use the std S/arm spindle and either fit resized bearings or add a sleeve to the s/arm.

For the shock mounts on the frame, I'm going to get new mounting point made up to screw onto the origional mounting that pushes the shocks out so that they line up with the s/arm

Hi, Did it on my 650/1100 , sleeved the swing arm pivot and you can space out the top Shock mounts and use thinner Lock nuts from a GPZ11 rear engine mount as they are the same thread..
Bugger ! whose Idea was that!

The fittings for the spindle is not a problem. Have made a bushing to put inside the pivot to use with the std swingarm spindle.

The problem is a new mounting point, how it should look like?!

I'm going to get a new top mounting pint that is identicle to the origional but has a thicker inner section that has an internal thread to screw onto the origional mounting....I'll try to draw it for you tomorrow.
