Anyone ever fitted a JMC arm to a Z1B
I have just restarted the long term rebuild of my Z1B. I bought a JMC un-braced swinging arm to improve things at the back end. I have hit a snag, when the rear shocks are fitted the arm comes into contact with the rear footrest mountings. Without heating and bending them outwards is there an easier option such as shorter rear shocks.
Would shorter shocks alter the handling in a bad way? if not does anyone know of shorter shocks that would fit.
Thanks for any advice

Dont go shorter on the shocks unless you drop you're forks the same amount as it will affect the handling. Dropping both ends the same amount wont be detrimental to the hanlding but will reduce your ground clearnace when cornering.
Sorry to hear about the JMC they never seem to fit first off. I had a braced one in the a1 and hade to modify the brake actuating arm to clear the swing arm. Eventually got rid of it and am looking for an unbraced one without eccentric adjusters.
Good luck with the fitting,
z650 shocks would fit and may be shorter but you would have to check the lenghts.

The more I look at it I could get away with shaving a few mm off the rear of each footrest mounting, it wouldn't affect the looks at all. What a pain in the arse, I have now struck JMC off my list of good suppliers

Is that a JMC arm bought new from JMC to fit your bike? If so don't be put off with shoddy workmanship and trying to make something fit which was actually bought to fit - send it back.
If not (and it was a may or may not fit / I think I've measured it right, but the price was right ) bend the footrest mounts out

It's a NOS one I bought off Ebay from ZPower for £150 so sending it back is probably not on the cards. I will just have to work on the frame slightly. No wonder Zpower sold it cheap

I have just had the frame painted so I don't want to do anything to ruin the finish if I can get away with it.

It is a standard bike that I have owned since the late 70's so I would hate to spoil it by doing anything that drastic

Hi Martin,
I bought a new one a couple of years ago, crap service , 9 months waiting for it, bits missing when it did arrive.. Then it did not fit between the frame tubes until a bit of surgery and like yours hit the footrest mounts, well actually the round bosses where the standard exhaysts f]would fit. I used an angle grinder and ground off 5mm of the inside of each boss which made it fit. JMC were no f~~~~g help at all.
I WOULD NEVER EVER BUY ANYTHING OFF THEM AGAIN!!!!

I will be doing the same because I want the back end tightening up a little, I will be very careful before I buy any more aftermarket bits during the rebuild.

KWAKERZ1, I will not bother Dave because it looks like it's the norm for these arms not to fit a standard frame and it is quite hard to find a swinging arm with the brake drum fittings nowadays. There should be a naming and shaming section on the site to let members know of problems they may encounter
