thanks for this info,
I wanted 'x' ring chain on my Z1 in 2000, found that 630 pitch was only in available in 'O' ring at best. So I fitted an 530 gearbox sprocket (17 tooth) from a VN800 and got B&C to make up a 38 tooth rear sprocket, finished off with a D.I.D. chain. It has run well for many years, no real wear, smoother and lighter.
I have some info for compatible 530 pitch sprockets from Z1 to 1000J including offsets, all available 'over the counter'.
Maybe the nudge I need to write a fresh report, there is also a really good site at jtssprockets.com where you can check the specs. of your existing gear shaft splines etc. and check out alternatives.
By the way although I agree that you should lube a chain from the inside of the links, I wouldn't like lube on my tyre, like in the picture.
Cheers
Simon
p.s. I am sure that I read in the latest magasine that Will (Saxon Turbo) used a 19 tooth 530 gear box sprocket, I'd like to know if he had to mod anything to fit it.
p.p.s.
I read somewhere that you should always choose sprockets teeth numbers to avoid the chain pitches always running over the same sprocket teeth.
Don't ask me, I just got here myself!
