Smoking

#1 PostAuthor: JohnJ » Thu Jul 16, 2009 9:11 pm

My bike smokes intermittantly. Usually it's fine but sometimes when I stop at traffic lights it smokes. Grey smoke. Then I can do a mile or 2 and stop again and it's fine. The bike hasn't been used for years, the tyres have been on it for 5 years. It's done under 20k from new.

Yes the exhaust. Funny really, not "Something to worry about" type smoke, more "Granny's car warming up" type smoke.

I've put a couple of hundred miles on it now, changed the oil and it still does it. Not as much though and not as often.

I'll stick with it I suppose!

If the bike has been sitting for a long time sometimes the valve stem seals stick to the stem. Then when the valves move the seals tear.

I saw a post from Jeff Saunders about this a while ago. It's a common problem with Zeds that have been sitting.

Sorted, thanks for replies, was the crankcase breather. Airbox has been removed and the breather rerouted. Was kinked.
