popped the spare set in the oven today whilst the mrs was out...took them up slowly to 200 and "clunk" the barrels did indeed slide off :D removed the liners and then the barrels, set the the block on some wood and then
re inserted the liners with a weight on top and left to cool, job done :)

Let me tell you about complacency in tackling this "liner exchange" job... I have done many!
However, one time, the replacement liners when fitted (bottomed-out), they all protruded evenly by about less than approx 0.005". I thought about if for a while and then considered that this would make for a better head gasket seal.

I forgot one aspect ... that the early Z1 one piece head-gasket seal,as with all types of Zed head gaskets, has to also seal the oil-ways at the four end corners of the head. Of course, they did didn't seal and leaked oil!
Off with the head and barrels/ liners to have them ground flat. Stupid thinking!

so what you're saying is it may be prudent to skim the top to ensure flatness?
I have considered this,I will see what its like when I do the proper swap, this was a trial run :)

Told you it was easy didn't i
Did mention earlier that you might have to skim the liner tops flush with the barrel face though.

Weaver, my complacency was, not realising that the barrel/ liners that were removed previously had been skimmed, hence, making the new liners protrude. No need to machine, just check with straight edge. Machine if protruding.
