Ok I'm on it I'll give that a go in the morning. Couple of questions?
What colour should the plug caps be, black or red?
What angle should they be, straight, 90 or cranked?
Where would I get the inline connectors from?
Thanks in advance.

Wayne ,above should do trick,by using needle technique you can find which ht lead may be broken,do test from ht cap end with caps removed to see if one of the ht caps may be faulty, most a4s now have black Nkg caps fitted, doesnt really matter what angle they are unless you want it to look original.Easiest way to check secondary resistance is to push your meter probes into the insulation at plu cap end alongside the wire and get reading between the two ht wires.

Paul
Taken coils off the bike and carried out tests as you described. Coiled for 1&4 had good readings but 2&3 nothing. I cut the HT leads back at the coil leaving enough to extend with new and again nothing.
Thanks for all you help guys but I think best to replace both.
So if I want authentic look should I go for black caps and what are the authentic angles, anyone have a picture?

If your bike is a US import it would have had black plain plastic as the NOS one shown, NGK type plug caps are similar but have the NGK moulded in them, If your bike is a UK bike it would have had the metal type caps as standard, usually dumped pretty quick and replaced with the red NGK caps.
The angles of the plastic ones are as the first two shown in the previous post.

that works out to about £22.50 each & that is what a zrx 1200 plug cap would cost from a dealer today so it aint that bad if you want originality

Not sure that is the same as the A4 ones, but either way I wouldn't bother because they are shite, unless you really want absolute originality and don't intend using it too much. My A4 is very near everything original but plug caps is definitely not one of them. There is a strong case to say it would look more original with a set of NGK's on it because that's what the majority had on them even back in the day.

Hi Steve decisions decisions I simply don't know what to do !
Is it possible to put the metal shells over the top of the NGK plugs?
