stainless steel carb screws

#1 PostAuthor: 02GF74 » Tue Jul 08, 2008 7:06 am

Is it a good idea to fit stainless steel screws to hold the carb fuel bowl and top covers?

And what is the prefered type: cross head (like original), cap head or button head?

I used ickle stainless cap screws on mine. From a practical perspective they're the donkeys, but if you're anal about originality then you'll be wanting the standard zinc plated philips screws made from cheese. Here's mine:

By the way if they're grubby try cleaning them with Jizer - that all I used on mine - soaked them and then scrubbed them with CB's toothbrush. Tedious and time consuming, but at least you know the buggers a properly clean

oooh ... those are very clean and shiny - don't give me ideas as I'm trying to resist polishing and stuff.

the cap heads you have - do they have spring washer fitted?

I don't see the flat plate that joins up the 4 carbs - did the early Zeds not have this?

Been thinking of making this from stainless but a quick spray up in silver has to do for the now.

I did take a good portion of a day to clean and polish the cards, but I'm glad I did them - a winter job me thinks :D

I did use stainless spring washers. Don't want 'em undoing themselves :D
