Clutch drag

#1 PostAuthor: FOZ1A » Mon Jun 06, 2016 11:20 am

Got the bike mot'd on Saturday, went out for a long run yesterday, when I got into traffic, the clutch would not dis-engage. Over the past month I have fitted an ape clutch mushroom, new cable and cleaned and adjusted all clutch components as per factory spec. Any ideas /suggestions would be appreciated.

Foz,
Did you apply grease to the worm drive on clutch actuator as I find not doing this will cause the problem you describe.

sounds like excessive shrinking of the outer cable when engine is hot normally associated with cheap aftermarket cables

No problem with the lever, the clutch would not disengage when I pulled the lever.

the outer cable is compressed when you pull the lever in if the outer cable is made out of inferior steel coil it will compress more than it should when hot but instead of the inner cable pushing the clutch apart you loose some of this leverage due to excess compression of the outer cable. have a look at the cable & see how much it flexes when you pull the lever

Good info ta! This seems to be a common problem on Zeds - I thought it might be the clutch plates expanding when hot, causing them to need more movement of the clutch actuator :?: When the engine cools it all returns to normal.
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!
