ST question

#1 PostAuthor: jonathan » Fri Dec 20, 2013 9:04 am

Couple of quick ST queries please....
Does the exhaust from a mark II/H fit on an ST? If not can it be made to fit? What are the aftermarket/pattern exhaust choices for the ST? I saw a Marving option on ebay but you need the original downpipes. Anything else?
Many thanks

I'm going to take a guess that the motor is the same as the MkII but with a different drive set up, so exhaust should be the same.

I'm sure the motor's the same but with different carburation apparently. There may be a small difference there that is surmountable but what I was thinking about was mountings/brackets etc. The ST exhaust is lower sitting with different pillion footrest mounts and I wondered if that was relevant?

The ST's seem to be good value for money at the moment same as the Z1R was a couple of years ago, I think I read somewhere that you can convert the ST to chain drive.

Will any other bodywork fit on the ST such as the Z1R?

The frame's are different, I am sure the mounting point(s) for the silencers are different but a bracket could be adapted. I had an Alfa and a Vance & Hines on mine, Alfa was specific for the ST, V&h had to be adapted.
The ST can be converted to chain, I have the info required somewhere. I have seen a Z1R tank fitted but not sure if it had been modified. ST frame is very wide at swingarm if you wanted to update the running gear and do the chain conversion.

Thanks Redbeard. Personally I'm not worried about the drive but I think the non-ST exhaust looks better. Were either of those exhausts the same look as the OEM?
Thanks

It really is just down to the mounting point and how the rear pegs fit.

As long as you can make decent brackets most of the zed exhausts fit.

I remember years ago a mate fitted Gpz1100 exhausts to his Z900.

Looked crap but they were free and it kept him on the road.

Both were 4-1, the ST had 4-2 pipes as standard. The Harris also fits fine, like others say, most big zed pipes fit with some fettling of the rear bracket. There is a replica ST exhaust or at least one that looks almost identical but not sure of the make.
