if someone was to remove a starter solenoid from a bike (not a zed) and then forgot which wire went onto the left side and which wire went onto the right side of the solenoid and then onto the battery ,
would it matter which side you connected the cables to the solenoid

Just a thought, if you are talking about the two small leads that go in to the solenoid coil, they must have polarity as the direct current causes the centre slug to move up or down, within the coil!
The larger connections can be changed over as said before, its just a switch!
