Camshaft fitting

#1 PostAuthor: carpy » Sun Jun 24, 2012 10:48 pm

When refitting the camshafts how do you ensure the camchain remains engaged on the crank, did mine today and it wasn't, just seems a bit hit and miss. Any good tips from anyone whose done this loads of times as it seems dead fiddly

When working on my own i always put a small cable tie around the chain and loop a reasonably strong elastic band through it and cable tie the band to the frame thus keeping some tension on the chain, if someone else is around i just get them to hold the chain up.

+1 gets my vote - Cable tie and elastic band to frame.

With the cam-chain tensioner retracted, I just sit both camshafts in place, (doesent matter about cam timing at this point) to hold the chain up.
However, I like the elastic-band method :D

The chain can sometimes come away from the crank - but as its not that often you have to re-fit it, I just spend a while messing about until it er-locates on the crank sprox
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!
