z1000 rough running

#1 PostAuthor: knut » Mon Mar 15, 2010 11:13 am

hi, a question for the collective please, my 1000 a1 is starting and ticking over ok but on the road it has a misfire /spluttering (i,m sure you all know the feeling)feels like it,s running out of petrol,i,ve cleaned the carbs as best i could but can anyone tell me what exactly what needs to be cleaned other than the pilot and main jet,and tube for same, and the passage at the bottom of the carb bowl :?:
i just want to rule out the petrol side of things first.

for the record , it,s got new fuel cap (venting ok)
new reg/rectifer ok
inline filters to carbs (plenty of flow)
timing is ok,
new air filter
which leaves the plugs and condnsers (running points )
i,ve got sooty plugs on 1 & 2 , and clean on 3 & 4
would faulty condensers cause it ?
next step i,ll fit new plugs and see, also run it without the air filter and see.
thanks in advance knut
what,s there to say except we,re all mad on here.

Speaking from my experience sounds like i was having same probs as you, had my carbs ultrasonically cleaned by ginger bear, rebuilt carbs with rebuild kits from z1 enterprises, and replaced the rubber inlet manifolds runs sweet as a nut now but im no expert by any means.

Also try new/proven spark plug caps. All NGK plug caps have integrated resistors that can break down and can give misfires under load and different heat conditions.

If it ticks over ok but struggles under load- the coils would be a prime suspect.
