Removing cylinder head bolts Z1100R

#1 PostAuthor: Magnum1 » Fri Nov 13, 2009 5:35 pm

I'm about to remove the head from my engine and I'm a bit concerned about the 2 cylinder head bolts. They look like they're waiting to snap! Anyone got any advice on removing them please?
Thanks,
Rod :(

Blow torch might be a good idea  .Heat them up to expand .

My tacho housing bolt is as stuck as a very stuck thing but I am confident it will move with a blowtorch and some patience.

I`ll let you know when..........................

is heatingthe answer? bolts will be steel but engine is aluminium alloy - the latter will expand more than steel when heated thus making it tighter?

run a scriber between bolt/head interface and apply penetrating fluid - not ~WD40. aloow to soak. the fluid may lubricate the bolt head as you undo it.

.... but chances are it will snap if it looks like its gonna :(

Thanks for the advice, I gave them a little tweak and they came out easy. Maybe it was the leaky cam cover that kept them all nice and oily!

Anyway, I'm going to switch to a project from now - looks like its going to be a long one.

Cheers,

Rod
