My sons school holds a technology open evening aimed at enthusing the children towards the educational and employment benefits of engineering.

Last year was very well attended with highlights being parents that brought along an Aston DB6 and a supercharged MG from the 30`s or 40`s that sounded amazing.

This year there will be a helicoptor and a presentation team from Jaguar/Land Rover. I took my bike and gave short rides around the playing fields. It would be great if some of you could come along to this wonderful evening even to just display your bikes in a static manner.

Here is the letter sent to parents which will explain all.

Technology Open Evening - Friday 3rd July 2009 from 4.30 p.m.
Dear Parents,
It is incredible that another year has slipped by since all we enjoyed seeing Thomas the Tank and friends, together with the Fire Engine enter the paddock field to a wonderful reception from everyone.
We are preparing for our tenth annual event, which will take place this year on the bottom playing fields from 4.30pm onward. Our event has continued to grow each year to such an extent that we have realised that to accommodate all of the many varied items that will be on display, and to maintain the high level of health and safety considerations that have to be in place for such an event, that it was necessary to move to a larger area. We believe that this will not diminish the entertainment and convivial atmosphere that we have come to expect over the years.
Our main objective in the Engineering Club over the current academic year has been to construct a fully working hovercraft with both a thrust and lift engine. The children have been hard at it with tools and elbow grease, and all of them have really enjoyed the project throughout the year. Some of the older boys have been receiving tuition in operating the craft as well, and all of them look forward to displaying their newly acquired driving skills.
We also have a motorized buggy that has been reconstructed with an old mini engine, and again, older boys will demonstrate their driving skills as well.
Old favourites, such as the fairground organ and the safari rally for 4x4 vehicles will be in attendance again, together with Aylesbury model aircraft club members showing off their skills in manoeuvring their craft through the skies of Swanbourne. We will also have two micro light aircraft, a climbing wall and an interesting police support vehicle with some intriguing gadgets. Be sure as well to watch out for the Dakota Bomber sketch, which will be a treat for all of us.
Perhaps the highlight of the evening activities will be around 6pm when a Robinson R44 helicopter will land on the playing fields, and two lucky Swanbourne children will be taken for a five minute trip. We are indeed indebted to Mrs Wendy Welsh, the pilot and a parent of the school.
As always, we are very grateful to all the parents and friends who are prepared to exhibit their cars, motorcycles and machinery in order to make the event more memorable. So please come along and support us. Alternatively, if you know of anyone with an interesting old or new vehicle or machinery, please encourage them to come along as well.
Tea will be provided to all the children this year on the Army Catering trailer and refreshments and food are also available to parents and friends.

First of all I must thank those that came along to Swanbourne this afternoon.

After the success of last year it was decided to move to a larger sports field which whilst much, much larger it sadly felt a little empty. This despite more exhibitors than ever including the hovercraft demonstration, model aircraft club, agricultural machinery, a collection of land rovers giving safari rides, the MG car club not to mention various bikes including the Z1 owners.

There was also the Robinson helicoptor landing and giving rides to 2 lucky pupils as well as a fly past of an 8 tenths scale 2 seater Spitfire that gave an excellent victory roll.

Paul McEleney brought along his Z1000 project and assorted bits which went down well. Especially with the parents.

The Great Escape saw the Ural chase after a stunt trials rider against which they had no chance.





Afterthe events there was a chance for the children to get rides on various vehicles. Here is my lads friend James getting ready for his annual spin around the sports field. Another Zed fan in the making.



A very hot afternoon that took everyone by surprise in the sheer numbers that came. They even ran out of food !
