900 Sleeve

Hi and a Merry Christmas to everyone out there.

I haven't posted on here for a long time, but wondered if anyone could help me out with fixing this, I have just received my cylinder head, cover and barrels for the Rickman CR900 that I am re-building back from getting them vapour blasted and the bottom of one of the sleeves has been broken in transit, (photo I hope).


They are 900 barrels that have been bored out to 70mm 1015cc, so basically I need a sleeve that I can get bored out and refit the piston.

Having a new liner pressed out then refitted to your barrels will be expensive....

Are the barrels & pistons freshly rebored or was it a used motor

Hi,
I have been talking to a mechanic friend of mine and he seems to think that I can use the barrels as they are, as the piece that is broken off is in the hatched area of the piston and the rings don't come down that far.

They are still usable, a little extra care when fitting the pistons might be needed that's all.

Just file the edge real smooth....

Luckily the damage is at right angles to the forces the piston will be exerting... (fore & aft) so you may well be ok....

It could be a good racing mod.... lightening the bike

Thanks for the replys, another little problem before I start putting it back together.
The dampers in the bottom of the barrels, how important are they, as one just drops down inside the fins and the others are below the surface.
Should I replace them, ? that will mean that I will have to wait untill after Christmas to get the bike back together, which I was hoping to get finished in the next couple of days.

The rubber damper for the guide wheels are quite important

I have skimped in the past reusing old hardened rubbers...

This didn't cause any real problems.... BUT.... as you've got the motor apart it'd be a shame not to replace them.....

If they get really brittle & break up.... could be a problem

They also stop parts rattling

Patience is a virtue..... & pre-planning is a skill

Mark I think Will means the round anti vibration rubbers which go in the holes through the fins.
Will if you do mean the round rubbers I wouldn't worry about them I can't say i've ever noticed any difference with or without them, if they do make any difference it's negligible and probably only work for a short time as they harden up very quickly.

Just put some silicon around them to glue them in, they do better at keeping the crap out than anything else.
