Converting GPZ900 carbs

#1 PostAuthor: Magnum1 » Wed Dec 10, 2008 7:57 pm

I've heard that GPZ900 carbs work well on Z1000J's and ELR's, but they are not the same distance apart as the BS34's. Has anyone carried out the conversion or does anyone know what's involved?
Cheers,

Hi there,
many moons ago a mate of mine attempted this on his Z1000J, The problem he encountered was the spacing between carbs 2&3 because of the center cam chain on the Z unlike the chain on the end on the GPZ9. A couple of mins with the hacksaw seperated carbs 1&2 from 3&4 and a tweak with a pair of pliers adjusted the carb linkage so that they all opened. I don't know if the carb mounting rails and the carb linkage is transferrable between Z and GPZ.

As for the choke.... Don't know

Did it run? don't know but if it did it wasn't for long as he broke it soon after and went the GSXR way.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info Sid, having looked at the set up, I think the main problem is the fuel channel that runs between all 4 carbs. But if your mate got his working, he must haved worked that part of it out. Wonder where he is now? Be good to ask him!
