Explain Rim/rotor dates

I have two sets of wheels. Please expain the stamps /year etc.
first wheel
Front
Takasago 1.85x19 303 japan 19x18J DOT 778
rotor 8A
rear
Takasago J18x215 DOT 303 Japan 598

second wheel
Front
Takasago 185Bx19 40 303
rotor 9C
Rear
Takasago 215Bx19 40 303
these wheels correct for what?? Why does one set Have DOT ??

It seems that the 40 303 relates to a 1974 manufacture date with the 0303 being a production number.

As for disc rotors, my 2c`s were made in 1977.

Your 8 is 1973 and the 9 is 1974.

As far as the DOT goes I always thought it stood for the UK Department Of Transport. Meaning they were type approved for the UK market.

My front wheel says Takasago 1.85 X 19 6K 303 denoting 1976 manufacture for the US market.
No surprise as it`s a US import.
