I figured out how to lock up the sprocket - now I'm scared of leaning on my long bar in the wrong direction.

Dark Skies, I have never seen a Left hand thread on the front sprocket shaft. They are always right hand lock nuts or have tab washers, to avoid them coming undone under acceleration. However, I know the feeling .. You don't want to try to turn it the wrong way!

Cheers, you were right.

Reason I was concerned was when I started heaving on the bar the bolt gave a bit of a squeak and then locked up solid. "Hmmm. Did I just tighten that?" feeling ensued. Coupled with the concern of stripping the thread and subsequent need for splitting the engine to put a good driveshaft in made me put out a shout.

It's off now though - braced myself, ignored the sensation of popping a gonad and heaved on the bar. Jeeze that puppy was on tight!

When you put it back ... use a smear of copperslip & a new tab washer ..
