Hello People,
Looking for a little guidence on the following;
1) Require a steering damper for my 1000J, any ideas where to get one ?
2) Secondly it would appear that my speedo drive has taken to only recording speeds of up to 20mph! I have to say that this has happened since I re-fitted the front wheel. Any ideas would be greatly received.

Steering Damper

Hi,
Drop your wheel again as you may not have engaged the tabs on the speedo drive properly into the wheel spacer speedo drive.
On the LHS (If your sitting on the bike) the spacer thats sticks out from the wheel has two cutouts that must align with the drive within the speedo gear. (the bit that the cable attaches to)
It is easy to not do this, also make sure when the spindle is tightened this piece is located properly on the fork leg.

Damper and drive
I had a damper on the J1 when i bought it and took it off cos it made the front end feel very heavy and sluggish. (adjustable damper) If your trying to get away from 'whippy' front end steering you might try BT45's and playing around with the air pressure in the front forks. Mine seems very susceptible to extremes of lively activity when any change in pressure takes place like lay up or general seepage of air. I think i have a little more oil than recommended and a little more air pressure than is recommended too. I also fitted slightly wider and flatter bars to give a little more leverage and a fork brace. Brace from Disco Volante. I also have both fork legs linked with one air tube and a central schrader valve. Found the stuff in a box of bits i bought from Kempton Park. GUARANTEES EQUAL PRESSURE IN BOTH LEGS.
Went out the other day, street racing with senile stig on his tuned Fazer 1000. Went round a corner on the footrests at flat out and bugger me drove straight through a massive diesel spill on the inside of the corner!!!!!! High side, low side, high side, low side, pirouette, double sulchov and another high side for good measure. Point is; it was all over before i had time to react but luckily i didnt react. Shut throttle or brake and it would all be being talked about from A&E but the j straight line stability is pretty good at sorting itself out. I personally prefer the natural feel if you know what i mean.
With the speedo drive you might try to whizz it up with a drill and 'T' bar or similar to check if it's working before you condemn your mechanical aptitude. Mine broke it's electrial wiring connection after removal. Had me running around all over the place for a week. MOT coming up and all.
