Just filled the tank up to test the float heights. No 3 carb appears to be pissing fuel but it's not obvious from where -

My first assumption was that the float valve was leaking but it seems to be at the correct height, having measured it with my newly constructed float height checking tool -

It seems to be more No 3 but I'm wondering if it could be the petrol feed 'T' piece.

Any ideas on anything I can check before having to remove the carbs from the bike, that being a major pain in the arse?

I didn't think there was ever any option other than take the fakars off agin :cry:

One gets so used to the wealth of knowledge on here and just hopes someone might be able to e-mail a magic wand, to avoid the enevitable fighting the bastards in and out. I have always hated firkin about with carbs. Dunno why really. Much prefer wiring than plumbing. I guess that the fact that the carbs are such bastards to get in and out with OEM airbox doesn't help.

It seems unlikely that the fuel is escaping over the float bowls following the level height check. Is it likely that fuel is leaking from the RHS supply 'T' piece?

Any pointers on bits that commonly leak would be much appreciated.

Hey, Ralph. If your levels ars correct, can only be the T junc leaking. Thats a smart float height tool. Did you make it yourself? Can you make more for sale? Cheers Tommy

That's rather much what I thought. I think that the leak is above the tops of the float chamber any way. I guess I just didn't want to belive it cos it means I've gotta take the bloody carbs off again and take 'em all apart to get at the 'T' piece. Not exactly a five minute job :(

The float height tool is a one off made by me and my faithful lathe. I couldn't make these fast enough to make it viable for me to sell 'em for less than Z-Power, but being tight, skint and enjoying making one offs, it made sense for me to make one. I really wanted one for each carb but that was too much like hard work!

Probably is the t piece, leave it for a week and see if the rubber swells and seals itself.

I took the carbs off tonight, clamped 'em in the vice, reconnected the tank and low and behold they're totally fuel tight. Whilst examining them In noticed one pilot screws seemed to be poking higher into the venurii that the others. I decided to check them all. When I came to undo the one that looked wrong it didn't seem to be lowering as I undid it - when it was all the way out it was still protruding into the venturii. Fuck, fuck and double fuck :grr

The top had parted company. Clearly over the years the brass has become hard and brittle. Before I was finished a second went the same way. Both were complete bastards to get out. Luckily I had some spares which were nearly the same. The spares were pretty worn. I think I'll try and source some new ones or praps make some. Eventually got it it all back together and continent.
