Cylinder Head Cover chambers

#1 PostAuthor: HowieD » Tue Jul 12, 2016 2:18 pm

Good day,

wondering what to do about these extra ports and the chambers on the head cover. I was looking for a plain Cam Cover but looks like I'll have to install the USA type one after all.

I wondered what the spare holes were on the Z1-R Cam cover Gasket and now I know.

What do these holes do and can I just blank off the covers with these plates from APE in the States? Also can I do away with the reed valves pates ?
They whole set up looks to link the 1-2 & 3-4 exhaust ports. they are called Smog Hoses on the APE www so i guess they are to do with emissions??

The holes in the head lead to the exhaust ports and are part of the US emissions to clean up the exhaust gasses.
All they really did was bleed fresh air into the exhaust which diluted the gasses so a bit of a fiddle really.
You can either fit those block off plates or go DIY and directly plug the holes in the head with some 10mm grub screws (after tapping them out) .
If you plug the holes you will be able to fit any non US cam cover.
The rounded 1000 ones will fit too.
