Z1R Fuel Gauge sender

#1 PostAuthor: Kev1R » Fri Dec 12, 2014 10:11 pm

I suspect I have a dodgy fuel gauge sender (the bit that sits inside the tank) - Does anyone know if they are repairable / rebuildable?
It does not look as though it is intended to be taken apart, as it is secured together with metal tabs rather than screws.
Is there a more modern alternative unit that would do the job?

I tend to rely more on how many miles I've covered since the last fill up rather than the gauge so it is more of an annoyance than a major problem.

Be nice to get it working properly again though!

Hi Kev if you can take apart should be no more than a slider contact moving on a coiled resistance wire worth taking out, cleaning contacts and testing with an ohmeter or even better testing while out of the tank to the gauge..Paul J

Thanks for response guys - I will try cleaning it up - I did run a multimeter on it & smoothly moving the arm produced a range of readings all over the place - which made me suspect the sender.

Course i might have a faulty multimeter!!.............Where does it end?

Cheers
