Valve Washers
Hi' All, I'm just rebuilding my GPZ1100 head, and noticed two differant washer's under the bottom valve spring seat, Very thin washer's, I've got 6 that look right and 2 that are differant, look's like someone put them in because they couldn't be arsed to order the right one's, and that's the question can you still get them and from where, Thank's in advance fella's...

What do you mean washers ?
Normally you just have the std steel spring seat with up turned edges (which is the same on all models) but if the motor has been played with there may be additional shims under the springs which retain the correct static spring pressure to compensate for valve height varience or to increase seat pressure.
If this is the case then not all the shims will necessarily be the same thickness or indeed under every spring.

I think it's GPZ A1 Head, the bottom end is 1000'J, It was all built when I got it, I'm just putting new cam's in when I noticed the washer's, It went for a new valve guid, I'm sure all the washer's were the same when it went, and it came back with two washer's that i've never seen and two valve seal's that were differant, look's like someone dropped my box of part's, I've got new seal's comeing I just wonderd about the washer's, it is a 1260 motor ported head kent cam's, It 's just the bloody washer's...

Here's a pic of a spring seat.
This is the underside view.
As you can see it has upturned edges on the inside and outside which the valve spring sits in.
It locates on the valve guide and cannot be removed with the stem seal in situ.
If yours do not look like this they are wrong.
Any seat from the z1 upwards will fit. also z650/750 etc are the same too.

If you have shims in addition to the spring seats then they are NOT std .
The small motors do NOT have them as std either.
They are as I described above, shims for correcting/adjusting seat pressure.
If they have been mixed up you may as well take them out unless you have a gauge that goes in the vice for measuring spring pressure at their installed height.
If the motor has been built and run a while the springs will have sagged anyhow and they should be reset.
This is only really crucial in racing to get the max out of the motor so if it's just for the street then take them out .
