Seat

#1 PostAuthor: Wayne1960 » Fri Feb 14, 2014 12:46 pm

Guys

I have just cleaned up my seat and there are 3 irritating threaded studs with nuts and washers at the front. you all have probably seen similar.

What are they for and can i cut them off!
Just purchased a 1976 UK Z900 A4 for renovation. Wish me luck.

Wayne, trying to help, however can't understand... Need photo!
I can only think of seat lock bracket, stay bar and hinges!

It appears those three bolts/screws at the front of the seat are to retain a "spike" plate or plates that hold the seat fabric in place.. They are usually spot welded!

Thanks Garn

So I could simply cut them off, I have no plate and have looked at many pictures and can't see any plates.

Can anyone else offer any advise?

Plate is probably the wrong description.
They are a sheet of metal about 20gauge thick and about 1/2 " wide and 4 to 6'' long. They can be made by sniping "vee's" about 3/4 "apart along the sheet and bending outwards to form a point. Once thru the leatherette they are bent back.
The strips would have to be spot welded back (if still required).
The bolts /screws can be removed.

Some seats have these vee's pressed out of the seat base around the periphery.

Hi Garn
Strange I seem to have both the bolts and the v's snipped into the actual body of the seat.
Imm going remove the nuts and studs and bond the seat fabric back to the body using the V's
Thanks
