z9/1000 steering stem (bottom yoke)

#1 PostAuthor: zed1015 » Sun Feb 09, 2014 4:53 pm

Z900/1000 bottom yoke wanted.
Only need the stem so doesn't matter about the condition of the fork clamps etc as long as the stem is straight.
Would be nice to have the stem bolt and castle nut too.

Not trying to be funny... but shirley a man of your much admired capabilities could run up a stem?

I've been reading up on such recently and it seems that they're not made of mega high spec material; mild steel and 7075 ally seem popular.

Yes! they are only mild steel or even ally on modern stuff but I always go for the simplest option first :D
Also my lathe has a little play in the lead screw so thread cutting is a pain and the very fine thread for the castle nut is hard not to f*** up.
Much quicker to take an existing stem and just slug it etc to fit the yokes i'm going to use.

Phew! As making a set of yokes and a stem is on the list of jobs that 'I want to have a go at' that's some comfort.

For a moment I thought that there was some overriding technical reason and rather than merely being over my head I was heading for the bottom of the Mariana Trench :)
