Extending Rex forks

#1 PostAuthor: tlc » Sun Dec 01, 2013 7:17 am

Can anyone help with the required fork extension length when using a Rex front end on a J, R or GPz frame. I am using a 120/70 x 17" front tyre.

I realise that a lot comes down to rear end as well but I have to commit to the front end first.

It may be that some have used other forks but as long as someone can give me their measurements from ground to top of steering stem (along the line of the forks and through the spindle) then I can work from there.
Opinions of the different lengths will also be useful as will size of rider. I am 5'10".

From my list of fork leg length I have them @ 30.5 inches 770mm
But I havn't actually measured them so I could be wrong.

My z1000H was 31.5 /800

My GPZ1100 was 820 but that included the extra length for the STD clipons

Measurements are from spindle center to top of Fork leg.

Thanks Gary.
You are correct in that std Rex are 30.5". Std J are 34"(citation needed).

With a 17" wheel that makes for quite a difference. I think now though I am settled on 2" extensions.

It's just that I would like as many opinions as possible before I press the commit button.

Chris, I don't know anything about extending forks and that kind of thing, but I have a sheet of fork tube sizes if that might help you. There are some 43mm fork tubes on the KLX 250 which are about 4" longer than yours. Could you use them and shorten them?

z1000J 38x644
Z1000R 38x646
ZRX1100 43x610
ZRX1200 43x613
KLX 250 (93/94) 43x730

Thanks for that but I have now commited to 2" extenders from Japan.
(I am too far down the road to alter my choice of Rex forks).

The parcel should be here in the new year as well as lots of other bits
